{Wordless Wednesday} Do You Like White Roses?

I love white roses.

They epitomise purity, innocence, honesty and love. Growing up, while all the other girls wanted bright, sensuous , powerful and alluring red, I wanted the simple, the dreamy, the hopeful white. That made me a pretty easy girl to please.

Not much has changed :) Not referring to the easy to please bit.

While there is life, there is hope.

What is your favourite rose colour?

{Wordless Wednesday} Moods

This handsome little man is my younger son aka Fabulous Son 2. Contrary to FS1, he hates posing or having pictures taken. So I just go ahead and do the next best thing any mum would do, capture him at his natural best. Here I give you Moods.

Help ! I lost my cape !!

Upon hearing some fascinating stories about super heroes saving the earth , Cosmo and Nova , aliens from Slippytopia decided to pay the lesser planet a visit . Hoping to learn and replicate the superhero technology , they quietly went about making observations about super hero activities on earth .

They were enamored with Batman’s physical prowess , his acute intelligence and thought his means of transportation was quite enviable.Though Superman was initially a bit of a disappointment for the aliens for they had already mastered the art of flying interstellar distances centuries ago , they were taken by the super hero’s fashion sense and innovative haircut , making notes to make an appointment with the hero’s stylist as soon as possible . Slippians could use an image and wardrobe overhaul , they thought .

Feeling quite pleased with their findings so far , the aliens carried on to find Spidey aka Spiderman. It took them a little longer to comprehend exactly why flinging oneself on spider webs and clinging to walls was regarded a super hero trait . It wasn’t until the lovely Mary-Jane appeared at Spiderman’s latest crime scene , proudly linking arms with her man did they realize that spider instincts were very popular with the ladies , damn those girly mags !

Cosmo decided there and then he would bring back a designer spider web to his long time crush , Prada upon his return to Slippytopia . Gosh ! Prada would be so enchanted with his creative thinking and she might finally let Cosmo hold her toe nail … Sigh

The aliens were getting tired , super hero spying is no easy feat . They decided to head back home, quite excited about sharing their findings with Slippian intelligence .

As they slowly snuck back to their Slipship hidden behind a big contraption with many doors and windows , curious as they were Cosmo and Nova peered inside to find earthlings bartering food and goods for rectangular pieces of paper , seems earth was still working on its fair trade policies. Slippytopia was a far more sophisticated planet .

Turning around to leave , a strange looking earthling caught their eye , it seemed female , half it’s hair loosened from what was once a ponytail , carrying 3 packages in one hand , 4 in the other , yelling into something stuck to her right ear , pushing a cart carrying a newly born earthling , tying the shoe laces of a smaller male earthling all the while saving another little earthling who seemed to wander away from the footpath every 5 seconds . Cosmo and Nova were struck by the sheer strength of this woman , yet she wasn’t on their list of super heroes. Nova whipped out his SlipPad 2 and scanned the earthling ,Slipki returned the following result :

Target identified is a capeless and somewhat unsung super hero . Clever , loving , strong , patient and considerate . Often powered by caffeine! Exceptional cook , ATM , Driver , Shopper , Washer , Cleaner . Stopped being anything else the day she became a mother. Sacrifices her dreams and her manicures . Reader , Master juggler ,Calculator , Listener, Story Teller.

Kisses tears and cherishes smiles , inspires , applauds , reprimands , protects . Isn’t perfect , forgets , cries , has tired days , often complains of lack of sleep , yet pushes on every single day . Cares , honors , teaches , shares , cuddles , holds and showers love like no one ever will .

Legend has it , she has a cape hidden in her closet but wearing one might be considered uncool and embarrassing by her young ones . Supermum , commonly found in suburban homes ; changing the world , one shoe lace at a time .

Remuneration : love !

The dream afraid of waking …

20120316-004245.jpg

It’s the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance. It is the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance. It is the one who won’t be taken who cannot seem to give. And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live…

thirty

The big 3-0 , home truths and all that jazz…

The age of 30 has something ominous associated with it , people avoid the subject like the plague and don’t be too surprised if you get a dead panned stare when you ask your bestie what they’re planning to do for their 30th , this is a serious faux pas particularly in the land of oestrogen  … seriously ! There are cruel jokes on the internet about how women start looking for wrinkles instead of pimples once they hit 30 . Clearly , the people who came up with these pot shots have never heard of yummy mummies and rejuvenation creams !

For me , the big 3-0 was like a homecoming and with that , it brought a flood of strength and resilence. I felt ready to take on fresh challenges and face life with renewed vigor , perhaps there was also the realisation that we only get one shot at life and I HAD to stop myself from drowning in survival mode and start LIVING !

Here’s a piece I wrote just after I had turned 31 , very much unedited and straight from the heart .

At the not so tender age of 31 , there are many things I have learnt or atleast pretend to know….There are also certain home truths that hit well……home…What I didn’t know at 21 , I know at 31 and what I don’t know now , I will know at 41 , I will make mistakes along the way , I will say things I will later regret , I will not always make the perfect decisions and there will always be things that could’ve been done differently….having said that , there will also be some wonderful memories , moments shared , breathtaking new bonds, unexpected revivals , long awaited closures , some dreams abandoned , some fulfilled and many others born….
Ofcourse there is also the acknowledgement of the age old adage Life is not a bed of roses” ( hang on , I knew that at 19 ) but there is then the serene acceptance that life doesn’t have to be perfect , to be wonderful….

Then there are those cold hard truths that strike you deep…

Circumstances alter faces…..you can count your closest friends on your finger tips….all others are mostly invaluable debris you could do without…
The truth , no matter how obscure, usually has a way of catching up with a lie…..
You learn that the family you always took for granted can be staunchly pitted against you in your darkest hour…

But its not all bad , home truths can be sweet….

When most stop believing in you, your mother shows you in her subtle ways that she never stopped believing….
She also never stopped loving you….and you mentally smack yourself for being a right nightmare to her in your teens….when all she wanted you to do was clean your room…..Oops !
Its not so much about what you say but its all about how you say it….
There isn’t much a bit of chocolate and retail therapy won’t fix…
Life offers you a second chance ….you just have to recognise the signs….
Love is not over-rated , it is just rare…

What were some of your thoughts when turned 30 ? Those who have not turned 30 yet , do you dread it or will it just be like any other birthday ?

The little things..

This morning I woke up to a relatively silent house barring the sound of tv from the lounge … For a few seconds I believed it to be a dream , how could I be experiencing anything but the ritual din of the fabulous two having their 55th row over what channel to watch , what game to play ……. All before 8am…… on a Sunday morning … Yes Sunday mornings, when the rest of the world is enjoying lazy sleep ins , freshly brewed coffee and the paper , I am usually wide awake and playing peacemaker …

I found myself rubbing my eyes in disbelief and the second thought that raced through my head was that of guilt and fear , how could I allow myself to sleep , what if something might have happened to the two … Prone to danger and mischief as they are …

I raced outside my bedroom to have a look ,fearing what lay ahead but lo and behold , what have we here …

The fabulous two , ALIVE , seated on the lounge , sharing a blanket , watching tv. I had to literally bite my tongue so I wouldn’t disturb this picture of peace in my home . Slowly , almost sneakily I retreated back to my room thanking God and everything else that matters for bestowing me with this incredible moment .

20120311-083453.jpg

As I lay back in bed , a comfortable silence still part of the background , I thought of what a blessing I had just experienced , a very little moment in the big scheme of things but special none the less .

Quite like the anecdote above , there are so many little things that make up our everyday lives which we simply take for granted …like that takeaway cup of coffee every morning , the rain followed by a rainbow , the smell of fresh roses, a lovely chat with a dear friend , a mother’s hug , a father’s words of wisdom , a child’s innocence , a sibling’s teasing ( read : annoying ) banter ,the tenderness of love and so much more ..

What are some of the little things in your life that you truly cherish but often times forget to acknowledge ?

Disclaimer : I am a responsible, loving mother and I LOVE  the rare sleep in !

A little man with big words

Children have beautiful minds and even more beautiful hearts , so perceptive and undiluted by the world and its ways … Here is what my 8 year old had to write when I asked him if he could send one message to the entire world , what would it be ?

20120304-155625.jpg

Amazing isn’t it ?
