Day 8

A smell you adore.

I have a lot of favourite smells so today’s decision was a difficult one but one I knew I had to make having missed yesterday’s shot. There’s the smell of coffee or the sweet fragrance of  something baking, the headiness of the smell of petrol or that soft mix of baby powder and head to toe baby bath when you hold a  newlyborn , just to name a few.

Decisions ! Decisions !

Finally I have decided to go with a fragrance that has now become my signature perfume.Ladies, this is definitely one for the wish list if you don’t already own a bottle. Sultry but not overbearing, sweet but not heady , a fragrance that defines classy and so very chic, you will have people asking you what you are wearing , I promise !

Ladies and Gentlemen , I give you my big secret :

Narciso Rodriguez – For Her

Over to you :What are some of your favourite smells ?  Have you ever used Narciso Rodriguez ?

You

Today was easy, who am I?

This picture sums it up.

A steaming and delicious cup of caffeine goodness to drink, something to read and something to write…that is me.

P.S – I refuse to be judged on the basis of my taste in books, Fifty Shades Of Grey is all the rage with thirty-something women at the moment.Sometimes, the price you pay for maintaining your uber cool-ness quotient is your own dignity!

Who agrees ?

Bird

So I will admit, I have cheated a little bit  today.Every now and then, the fab 2 and I head out to Lake Tuggeranong here in Canberra to feed the birds, take a little walk, soak in some nature. This is a collection of pictures from one such afternoon a few weeks ago that fits right into today’s theme.

Along with a stunning autumn (pictures here) , Canberra puts on some spectacular sunsets and although these pictures were not captured right at sunset, the sun was just waning and the light was gorgeous on the day.

I will let the pictures speak for themselves.

Day 4

Fun!

Friday nights are all about FUN in our house so today’s theme was an easy one to capture. It is traditionally nachos and movies night at our place  ( a relatively less elaborate meal to give the head chef at Mumchic HQ a well-deserved break after a gruelling week).Of late, the fab 2 have been actively involved in the preparation and I must say they make excellent sous-chefs. Ah the lengths I will go to raise decent, self sufficent boys !

For those of you who couldn’t read past the first line and can’t stop salivating at the sight of those nachos, here’s how we do it – it really is very simple. Please bear in mind, these nachos are not fancy, but just perfect for when you don’t feel like spending too much time in the kitchen, better yet , train the kids up on this fuss free recipe.

Fun Friday Nachos

You will need :

A bag of original corn chips

A jar of Salsa

Half a can of baked beans in tomato sauce or refried beans

3/4-1 cup shredded cheddar/tasty or mexican cheese mix if available

Chilli flakes

A microwave

Extras :

Finely chopped onions,jalapenos,shredded lettuce,sliced olives,sour cream, guacamole

How to :

Mix the baked beans with salsa , we find a full can of beans a bit too much but you can go ahead ad use the full can(any leftover bean/salsa mix can always be used the next day).

Spread a layer of corn chips on a microwave safe plate – about 1/3 bag.

Evenly spread  half the bean salsa.

Add another 1/3 bag of corn chips creating a heaped, towerish look.

Top with the remaining bean salsa and shredded cheese.

Sprinkle some chilli flakes and chopped jalapenos if you like  a bit of bite.

Microwave for about 90 seconds or until the cheese has melted.

Top with any of the above listed extras or serve as is !

The satisfied grin on a certain sous-chef’s dial tells the rest of the story – Have a fabulous weekend all.

Day 3

Something You Wore

Yes it is the uber trendy Pandora bracelet and what every girls either has or wants to have.Usually, people love to wear lots of charms on their Pandora, but I have deliberately chosen to keep mine charm-free(well except for this one little owl which signifies wisdom and is synonymous with my name – how could I resist that one?), you will see why in a minute.I have worn this bracelet every single day for the past 2 years except the time when they needed to cut me open and advised me that apparently jewellery interferes with all that complex medical equipment. I think we will leave that for the  doctor types to explain.

This bracelet, to me is always a reminder of a truly special friendship. A friend who made me smile and look at the bright side during a very difficult phase in my life. Someone truly honest and genuine.Often, we may not speak for months on end, we may not even be vaguely aware of what is happening at the other end but I know we will always bond over an iced chocolate or the chillies in a burmese curry meal.I know that if I ever need to count on a friend, they will always be there and vice versa. Some friendships, like this bracelet, truly are beautiful in their simplicity.

Touche.

Photo A Day May – My Shot ! Days 1 & 2

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week so far !

It just hit me yesterday, we are almost halfway through 2012 where did the months fly? Time just seems to steadily slip away and before I know it, another year will have passed unless ofcourse everything ceases to exist after 21st December 2012 as per the popular end of the world theory.

Come to think of it, there is so much to live, love, experience, explore and inhale in this life , I am yet to even make a dent in my bucket list.So many dreams to unravel, so much joy to be found.

As I contemplated the speed with which May had arrived, I also came across this very inspiring idea to make each day count a little. It is called Photo A Day May and the details can be found here. Basically, each day in this month has a particular theme and you capture a picture that symbolizes the day’s theme. It is a brilliant initiative to get those creative juices flowing along with sharing a little slice of life as we see it, with the rest of the world.

Before I reveal my shots for Days 1 & 2, I will just add that as much as I LOVE clicking pictures, I am no professional photographer and I don’t own a decent camera( although a new DSLR is on the mother’s day wish list ! Listening anyone ?! ).All pictures I share on my blog and the ones I will be sharing for Photo A Day May have been captured with the iPhone 4s and then edited using either Istagram or the Adobe Lite apps easily available on iTunes.

So here is a list of daily themes for Photo A Day May :

and now for the pictures :

Day 1

Peace

Yep , that’s my little FS2 posing with a peace sign !

Day 2

Skyline

This is my beautiful city, Canberra. The view from my office this afternoon, an overcast sky and the clouds softly gracing the hills. HOW I captured this shot is another story altogether … put it this way, I lost my lunch to get this one !!

And although this next picture is not part of a theme, another beautiful shot of Canberra putting on a beaitiful autumn.

I will be making an effort to add a new shot everyday so do check back in again. I will also be updating our Facebook page (do “like” us on FB if you haven’t already!) and our twitter stream with the latest pictures.

Please feel free to leave your thoughts/comments on the pictures.

Have an inspired day/evening :)

glasses

Will you wear these glasses?

Back in the day, I distinctly remember the boys in our apartment building going all gaga over The Terminator, remember the movie ?This was probably 1991, and having watched and experienced the thrill of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (damn, I had to google that to get the spelling right!) The Terminator 2- Judgement Day and being able to educate others what a Terminator actually was and how he saved the world and how insanely cool he sounded while saying ‘asta-la-vista baby’ was possibly immensely gratifying to the guys… it was akin to…lets say having a LOT of Likes on some cool video you just shared on Facebook.

Anyway , so Arnold wore these awesome science fiction glasses which made him look really easy on the eye , but the coolest part about them was that they could constantly produce various snippets of information about the objects/entities being viewed. Here picture this if you have forgotten the epic-ness or if you just missed the movie somehow.

Now, I have never been heavily into Science Fiction , but technology loving as I am , I was quite fascinated with these very savvy glasses. I wondered how it would be to own a pair? Could I just wear them , and say point them to an LV handbag and the glasses would immediately tell me its price, make and more importantly, if it would suit me. The whole premise of wearable computing and how it would change our perception about this world was quite the workshop in a young girl’s mind.

Then life happened and Arnold faded away. So did those glasses.

But today, something special happened. Google , the ‘do no evil’ company showed the world of their incredible new invention. Something that might change the very fiber of communication. It is called Google Glasses and it is almost exactly what Arnold would say as ta la vista baby to. I give you the video to devour and be amazed at. Enjoy.

What a wonderful time we live in, the speed of change in the way we are communicating today is mindblogging and probably the best way alive through this metamorphosis to to embrace this evolution. (See how I have justified buying my iphone 4s).

What do you ,  wonderful readers and followers reckon ? Will you be buying Google Glasses when they hit the stores?

siri

Oh iPhone , how I love to hate you..

Dear iPhone ,

My relationship with you has been an interesting one and the subject of much ridicule amongst my closest friends and family . You see , I was one of those outcasts who found the whole touch screen experience fairly intimidating – and NO I refuse to be called technologically challenged , can I help it if the Finnish Nokia had my fingertips wrapped around its beautiful beveled keys for a good part of a decade. It was a long drawn out break up with Nokia I have to say , at one stage I was carrying two phones , an iPhone because you know , everyone has an iPhone , I mean EVERYONE  and a Nokia because it felt like home. My Blackberry loving sibling , prone to telling it like it is , was often found wondering in company whether your only purpose in my life was to serve as a camera .

Time , they say is the best healer , over time I developed a kind of affinity for you, dearest iPhone , enjoying the land of apps and an unending supply of music you always provide at the touch of a screen….emails at my fingertips , google search a tip and a tap away , maps when I lost my way , really what more can one want ? Having said that, I didn’t succumb to a rash purchase as soon as they replaced you with that new swisher looking iPhone 4 when it arrived back in 2010.You could say I was finally beginning to fall in love with you.

But late last year, you sort of gave in and I thought it was time for fresh starts. After endless research and friendly debates generally titled ” Samsung SII vs Apple iPhone 4s ” , “Android vs iOS”  , ” hold out for the iPhone 5 or go for the 4s “…. you get the drift, I , once again gave in to Apple , well Siri really.

4 months on , I think it would be only fair to say , my not so new iPhone 4s and I share a love hate relationship . Here’s why :

I hate, hate, HATE that it has a shocking battery life and I have to charge it every freaking half an hour.

I LOVE that it has a fantastic 8 mega pixel camera that takes brilliant photos as well as videos  , almost negating the need to have any other digital camera in my life unless its a DSLR.

I HATE( I mean love , I mean hate , I mean love …oh nevermind !) that having a world of information at my fingertips in the form of a smartphone , I am less inclined to read a book on my way to work and highly inclined to read who did what with whom and where on Facebook, very informative I tell you. I am also very much likely to connect with a friend via text, email or a facebook shout out than by actually just phoning them which by the way is also just a finger tap or a Siri command away.

Speaking of Siri ,the lovely Siri ( which did you know can go through a gender change just by selecting the English – UK option as I discovered this morning ). It  is a great addition and a definite step up in the game , heck it is possibly what convinced me to go with the 4s over the Galaxy SII , having said that I HATE that I have only but used it but  a total of umm 15 times and it refuses to assist me with finding the closest chinese restaurant because I speak with an Australian accent . I am not paying any less ( infact its probably more seeing the current exchange rate )  for an iPhone 4s than my American friends then why the prejudice Apple ? I would like a Siri that knows everything , thankyou very much !

Oh and lets not forget, I HATE how,  the fabulous two with Siri’s willingness to always  please find their way into playlists when they should be doing their homework.

I LOVE that Siri has given our home many magically cute moments like the other night when FS2 , half asleep and contemplative , asked ” Mummy , Siri must get so tired , she has to answer so many questions , does she ever sleep ? ” , Yes I know he is cute isnt he ? , takes after his mother ofcourse , I couldn’t help but play along by saying ” Yes sweetheart , which is why we really shouldn’t be asking her what the current weather is in Disneyland… every 5 minutes “

And lastly , I HATE how the fabulous two have executively decided that the iPhone is their primary gaming console , no matter how many other gaming consoles we may have in our house , they will gladly trade-in for an iPhone. There was even talk last week in the house  about taking the phone into school for show and tell ( something to do with being cool I suppose ) and FS1 is apparently saving up for the iPhone 5 . FS1 is 8 years old and might be dreaming.

So as touted aggressively by Apple, is the iPhone 4s the most amazing iPhone yet ? Probably , Am I sold on it ? No , not yet .

I hear they might release the iPhone 5 later this year around Spring ( I’m Australian remember , Spring = September , we do seasons the other way round down under just in case you were wondering ) , Will I be pre-ordering it ? No , I don’t think so .. I rather enjoy these little debates I have with my friends about pros, cons , functionalities every time Apple has a big release.

Well there we have it , so until we meet again…

Oh iPhone , how I love to hate you.

P.S my wonderful , dependable ex, Nokia still sits somewhere in the house , always ready to be a backup phone incase the iPhone 4s and I have a falling out.
