All Wrapped Up In Love.

Teaching our children to do a few age appropriate tasks around the house as long as they are not exposed to any dangerous situations  is such great education in its own right. Apart from learning to be independent and self sufficient as they grow, they learn take ownership of their actions. By gently steering them along but allowing them to find a way through themselves, we help enhance their analytical, strategic and problem solving skills , perhaps at a very miniscule level but important life skills to have at any age nonetheless. We help them believe that they can be trusted which in turn builds their confidence and self-esteem.

A couple of weeks ago I taught FS1(that’s my eldest son if you have recently started reading mumchic) how to make a cup of simple, instant coffee for me. He has already been making himself hot chocolates in the coffee machine and 2 minute noodles in the microwave under supervision so I thought he was just about ready. Ofcourse, making a cup of coffee was easy enough and he picked it up straight away. Let me just say here, FS1 is the more empathic of my two sons. Perhaps he is that little bit older too now and therefore understands and can process emotions better than FS2. Off and on, he remembers that mum loves to have a coffee once all her “jobs” are done for the night so he might make me a cup and add, “come Mummy, you need to relax now,”

Sweetheart.

Today was a long day for me and I must have looked a bit weary to FS1 so when we finished dinner and as I wrapped up things around the kitchen,he started to refill the kettle.

“No FS1, please don’t make a coffee yet sweetheart, I have so many things to do still,”

He looked a bit sad and protested for a few off seconds but then got distracted and walked away. Aside from being able to do something nice for his mum, I think FS1 also feels that making a coffee is a very “big people”  thing to do. I have heard him brag about it to FS2 very matter of factly seeming as if he had been doing this for years,

Soon,I finished all my “jobs” and jumped in for a quick shower. When I returned, here is what I found on my kitchen  counter :

The poor thing had gone ahead and made me a cup of coffee to drink later and was thoughtful enough to wrap it up well so it would stay warm for longer.

Now if that doesn’t bring tears to a mother’s eyes , what does? On a deeper note, my heart surges with pride to see my son taking on the very core values of care, kindness and respect which I have always tried to instill in my children. To me, this is a definite win

As for that coffee, it is indeed delicious, after all it is….. all wrapped up in love!

Over to you.. Have you as a child done something really kind for someone? Or do you know of a child who is big on kind gestures?

You

Today was easy, who am I?

This picture sums it up.

A steaming and delicious cup of caffeine goodness to drink, something to read and something to write…that is me.

P.S – I refuse to be judged on the basis of my taste in books, Fifty Shades Of Grey is all the rage with thirty-something women at the moment.Sometimes, the price you pay for maintaining your uber cool-ness quotient is your own dignity!

Who agrees ?

Why fall in love ? I’d rather fall in caffeine…..

Speaking of addictions …..

I will unabashedly admit, I abuse caffeine; in fact it is a primal need to have a few shots of coffee coursing through my veins before I can even begin to function along the lines of semi-normal. I cannot thank the boys at the Bean in the City  enough for their delicious mochas in those bright green cups I have been hoarding on my desk – I can’t help if they’re too pretty to throw away ?!

Some time back , I was idly randomising with a friend and they suggested going for the intravenous method of injecting coffee into the system at a prescribed dosage at phased intervals every day. All this because we numbercrunchers have mastered the art of letting our coffee cups go cold and spend half a morning to and fro- ing to the nearest microwave to warm that quintessential cup of coffee… on other days the need for caffeine is so strong that sipping from a cup seems a rather long winded method and the IV would be fast and potent.

Can you imagine the high ?

I can’t even begin to fathom life without coffee , in fact I bought myself a coffee machine for my birthday this year , here have a look :

Quite a looker isn’t she ?

Call it love, obsession or call it an addiction….it costs MUCH lesser than a relationship , you can have it every day , as many times as you like (stomach permitting) , it doesn’t ask you frustrating questions and it certainly doesn’t expect you to be home by 6 , it gives you that incredible rush JUST when you need it and there always different flavours to pick from when you need a change. And as an added bonus , there are no emotionally charged spiels when life beckons…..Really…… why fall in love ? I’d rather fall in caffeine…..

And The Award Goes To….

I woke up this morning to a find nice little surprise in my inbox . It turns out , fellow hilariously funny blogger fivesecondrules thinks Mumchic is pretty fabulous and awarded us “The Inspirational Blogger “ Award. Fivesecondrules , Thankyou !!! I am so thrilled to be receiving my first ever blogger award from a writer as wonderful as yourself and congratulations to you on receiving your award too :)

Image

Now to claim the award , I have to share 7 things about myself , well here goes nothing;

Sometimes when I am thinking hard about something , and even though I hate to admit it, I start squinting. Only a *few* catch it though.

I am petrified of highways and break-ins.

I can’t live without coffee and soulful music and I love walking in the rain.

I am an accountant and have no clue how I landed that job but they haven’t fired me yet so I must be doing something right .

I mumble . A lot !

Since I was 10 , I have had a massive crush on Bollywood actor and heart throb , Salman Khan . I secretly watch all his movies and interviews , even the bad ones…. repeatedly.

I can often be found sleeping on public transport and long drives… the same doesn’t apply to flights .

I was born and raised in Pakistan and I want to contribute towards reviving my beautiful birthland.

I can take a few light-years to decide on a handbag (replace handbag with most things).

I don’t like to be late ..ever ! I don’t like people who are late …at all.

My real name derived from Arabic means , ” the wise one “…. yeah I know , go figure !

Is that 7 ? ….Oh ! well just goes to show how narcissistic I can be ;)

And now its time to award a few of my favourite bloggers , they are ;

Evan Sanders of  The Better Man Project
Kate Dzienis of  Skinny Cap with Two Sugars
Brenda Blasingame of Awake-Aware-Alive
Gary Lum of  Yummy Lummy
Kamilla Johns of Kamilla Johns Real Food

Even though she already received this award , I will make special mention of the lovely L of fivesecondrules , love your work girl , keep rocking !
